The Dance

After decades of attempting to line dance, this ol' gal finally got it.

YES I DID!
YES I DID!

Decades of going right instead of left, back instead of forward, stomping instead of kicking...

I recently gathered with a group of gals who explained it, showed it, repeated it, explained it again, turned the music on and danced it with me. The pivot to change directions had me stumped for almost FIVE decades. My cochlear implants didn't help because the music was a noisy mess, not the stuff everybody danced and sang along to.

My sister explained the pivot twice - two decades apart. FAIL. Both times. My teacher friends demonstrated and explained the whole dance. FAIL.

My brain simply could not match the verbal explanation to the body movement.

I wonder if this dance is challenging for others.

And I wonder if other people walk away from challenges like I did, only to come back to them later on.

I wonder if anyone else fails at something - for DECADES.

Last week, I tried again. More explaining, more demonstrating. This time in my home with my gal pals. We had pina coladas first. Of course! Again and again and again we went through the motions. Without music. With music. Louder music. Slower music. No music.

Then finally...

I DANCED RIGHT THROUGH IT

WHAT A FEELING!

Can I understand music? No

Can I feel passion? Yes

Can I count the steps? Yes

Can I feel the beat on the souls of my feet? Sometimes

Can I feel my heart expressing itself through my body? YES

What a feeling!

At 62, I can learn something new, experience success and love a fresh part of life. DANCE.

But that's not all. There is a PLUS.

Line dancing with gal pals -

PLUS!

I am adding my own particular flair to the movements while not missing the beat or leaving the line.

If my hips say sway - I sway.

If my hands say snap, I snap.

If my heart says sing, I sing.

This is an element of togetherness that I have never experienced.

Dining together, chatting together, hiking together, biking together - all moments that I cherish.

But dancing together? See for yourself...I have proof!

It's not much, but it's a pivot and a kick and by golly, it's a line dance! Watch here:

The gals you see walked it and talked it and danced it. Then danced it again! Plenty of laughter was sprinkled throughout.

Now the dance continues.

Through life.

THE PATH TO SUCCESS

WASN'T PRETTY

I didn't look pretty and my pathway to success was a muddy mess, but I did it.

How many times did I quit? Too many times to count. Who cares. I came back time and again to give it another shot. Glad I did!

But I wonder...

How close was I when I kept quitting?

I'll never really know.

Perhaps success was just around the corner.

But I do know this:

I came back to try again in August 2026.

With a little bit more to give.

With a little bit more perseverance.

With a group of friends.

That's the magic potion.

And now the dance through life continues.

FLASHDANCE, WHAT A FEELING

First when there's nothing

But a slow glowing dream

That your fear seems to hide

Deep inside your mind

All alone I have cried

Silent tears full of pride

In a world made of steel

Made of stone

What a feeling

Being's believing

I can have it all now I'm dancing for my life

Take your passion

And make it happen

Pictures come alive

You could dance right through your life

Now I hear the music

Close my eyes

I am rhythm

In a flash it takes hold

Of my heart!

What a feeling!

Being's believing!

I can have it all now I'm dancing for my life!!

Take your passion

And make it happen

Pictures come alive

You could dance right through your life!
